The Western Cape province has recorded its first case of mpox, increasing the number of cases in the country to seven.

The latest confirmed case is a 39-year-old man, who was admitted at a local private health facility in Cape Town over a week ago and tested positive on Thursday.

While this is the first case to be reported in the province, the National Health Department said the man’s place of residence is Gauteng, Northcliff.
