Vodacom is investing more than R400 million to improve network connectivity in the Free State and Northern Cape

Vodacom Central Region, encompassing the Free State and Northern Cape, is injecting over R400 million this financial year to bolster network capacity and resilience, particularly in remote areas. This builds on previous investments totaling R1 billion since 2022, reinforcing Vodacom’s vision of widespread, reliable connectivity for all South Africans.

Managing Director Evah Mthimunye emphasizes the goal of creating an inclusive digital society by enhancing the network through new sites and upgrades. This year’s plans include significant investments in radio access networks (R250 million) and transmission enhancements (R150 million), aiming to improve connectivity and speed. The region’s 3G and 4G coverage rates are already impressive at 99% and 98.2%, respectively.

Vodacom is also focusing on energy projects worth over R120 million to counteract loadshedding impacts. Affordability initiatives like Just4You and community partnerships further support its commitment to accessible digital services, coupled with impactful social projects in healthcare and environmental sustainability.
