Vodacom invests R400 million in improving Free State and Northern Cape connectivity – Hypertext

Vodacom is investing R400 million in the Free State and Northern Cape this financial year to enhance network capacity, resilience, and connectivity. This initiative takes their total regional investment to over R1 billion in the past three years. Previously, they spent R500 million in 2023/24 and R340 million in 2022/23 to expand broadband. Vodacom aims to build a robust and inclusive digital network by adding new sites, upgrading existing ones, and ensuring superior connectivity for all South Africans. This year, R250 million will go towards radio access network projects, and R150 million will fund transmission upgrades such as microwave and fiber rollouts. The company also intends to establish more than 30 new rural sites and roll out 5G across key districts. Additionally, to combat load-shedding challenges, Vodacom plans to invest R120 million in energy projects to enhance network reliability and capacity during power outages.
