University of Mpumalanga hails its largest graduating class to date

Since its inception in 2014, the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) has grown from offering three courses to over 72, with student enrollment skyrocketing to nearly 10,000 by 2024. Initially, only 5% of UMP’s faculty held PhDs, but this figure has now risen to 55%. Impressively, UMP has consistently received clean audits from external auditors annually.

During the recent graduation ceremony, Vice Chancellor Mayekiso highlighted the significance of these achievements within the broader context of South Africa’s 30 years of democracy. She lauded the graduates’ role in shaping the nation’s future and challenged them to actively create opportunities rather than waiting for them. Mayekiso’s speech emphasized personal growth, resilience, and making positive contributions to society. Her words were echoed by Davhana-Maselesele, who urged graduates to focus on their goals despite any challenging circumstances. This celebration not only marked academic success but also reflected a commitment to societal progress.
