Two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of the Vrijstaat couple | The citizen

Two men have been arrested for the gruesome murder of elderly couple Christo and Christa Morrison, ages 76 and 73. The couple was found dead on their farm near Glen in the Free State. Specialized units tracked the suspects to a guest house in Bloemhof, where the men’s possession of the victims’ mobile phones led to their arrest. The Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, alongside the Welcome Tactical Response Team, conducted the raid around 11 p.m. on Friday. The suspects, aged 39 and 26, face charges of home invasion and murder in the Flower Fountain Magistrate’s Court.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli confirmed their imminent court appearance. Free State Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane praised the community’s assistance in the investigation. The gruesome discovery followed a neighbor’s concern over the couple’s unreachability. After finding the farm looted and bloodied, police located Christo’s body 300 meters from home and Christa’s in a septic tank. The couple’s stolen Toyota Land Cruiser was later found near Brandfort, intensifying the province’s alarming crime statistics.
