Two life sentences for man who raped young girls in the Northern Cape

A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to two life terms for raping two young girls six years ago. Convicted by the Postmasburg Regional Court, the offender lived with the victims and their mother in Danielskuil near Postmasburg. In 2018, while the mother was searching for an older son who had been stabbed, the man raped the seven and eight-year-old girls in their mother’s bedroom. The children confided in their aunt, who then informed their mother. The man was subsequently arrested and charged. During the trial, the girls identified the man in court and described how he restrained them and the pain they endured. Despite the defense not calling the man to testify, the court was convinced by the compelling testimonies and medical evidence presented by the prosecution. The sentencing marks a significant step in justice for the victims, as noted by National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane.
