Mpumalanga’s over-40s team secured a bronze medal at the ASA Marathon Championships, held in Durban alongside the Durban International Marathon on April 28. Six athletes represented Mpumalanga, competing to bring pride to their regional federation. The team comprised Lovers Hlatshwayo, Graham Malinga, Nthuthuko Maseko, Msawenkosi Buthelezi, Samuel Mathabatha, and Shellboy Mavuso. Notably, Hlatshwayo and Malinga ran in both the 40+ and open men’s categories. Their strong performances, along with Maseko, helped the team achieve third place in the 40+ category. In the men’s open category, Mpumalanga finished fifth overall. The athletes’ times were impressive, with standout performances from Buthelezi at 02:22:32 and Mathabatha at 02:22:34.
