Heading into the ninth round of the Gauteng Development League, bottom-ranked teams White Junior, Panorama FC, and NWU Vaal Academy faced further challenges, each suffering losses on Saturday. Despite setbacks, all three teams showed signs of improvement with intensified attacks and better defensive strategies, inching closer to the league’s top teams.
Panorama FC displayed the most progress, scoring four goals against Remember Elite Sports Academy (RESA) but ultimately losing 4-5. Their downfall was attributed to an inability to manage RESA attackers, evidenced by conceding two penalties in the first half, converted by Nkululeko Sekese and Kabelo Phuthiyagae. Phuthiyagae added another goal, assisted by Katleho Majoe. Tshegofatso Rampitsang and Thembinkosi Mlangeni scored in the second half, sealing RESA’s home victory.
In Johannesburg, Wits Junior narrowly lost 1-2 to Highlands Park. NWU Vaal was defeated 0-2 by Rosina Sedibane Modiba. Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns and Imperial Leaders retained their top spots with respective 3-1 and 3-2 wins against School for Excellence and SuperSport United.
Jomo Cosmos produced the weekend’s biggest upset, defeating TS Galaxy 2-0. Other results included Sevens Academy’s 2-0 win over Kathorus Hyperacademy, and a heated 1-1 draw between Randburg AFC and East Rand Athletics Club at Tsakane Stadium. Pretorian sides Grant and Joburg City ended in a goalless draw, rounding off a competitive weekend in the Gauteng Development League.
