Students from the Northern Cape rise to become citizens with innovation | News24

Two Grade 11 students from Kimberley Technical High School (THS), Sibusiso Mazabane and Uwami Kumalo, achieved second place in the national Youth Water Prize competition with their innovative project ‘Eco-Flow’. The competition took place at Xylem Water Solutions in Kempton Park, Gauteng. Their project focuses on water conservation, food security, energy efficiency, and climate change, showcasing their skills in coding, electronics, and technical design. Under the guidance of their principal and mentor, Michael Ludick, the students received R15,000 in cash, laptops, a second-place trophy, and scholarships for further education. This marks the second consecutive year that Kimberley THS has secured second place in this competition. The event aims to identify a project to represent South Africa at the 2024 Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Sweden. The Department of Water and Sanitation, in partnership with the Stockholm Water Foundation, organizes this annual competition to foster innovation among young people in water conservation.
