Sought-After Fraudster Apprehended at Durban Car Dealership | The Witness

A sting operation involving Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), SAPS detectives, and the Wesbank Forensic Division led to the arrest of an alleged fraudster at a Mount Edgecombe car dealership. On Tuesday afternoon, Verulam SAPS detectives sought Rusa’s assistance to apprehend a woman and her accomplice wanted for multiple fraud cases across South Africa. The suspect allegedly used fake documents and stolen IDs to fraudulently secure vehicle financing and escape with new vehicles, which were later removed from the NATIS system and never recovered. She was notably sought for driving away with a R600,000 Ford Ranger Double Cab. Surveillance revealed her arriving at the dealership using an e-hailing service, where she attempted to sign for a new bakkie using a fake ID. Upon arrest, she falsely claimed to be working for a police unit in Johannesburg. The investigation confirmed the provided names were fictitious, leading to her detention.
