Motorists in Eastern Cape have been advised to drive cautiously due to snowfall affecting various parts of the province. The Penhoek Pass on the N6, the Barkley Pass on the R58, and the Wapadsberg Pass on the R61 are currently closed. These closures have been necessitated by heavy snowfall, adding to the challenges already posed by recent heavy rains which have loosened the ground, raising concerns of mudslides. Furthermore, the N2 between John Tallant and M4 exits in Gqeberha is closed due to debris washed onto the road by high tides. Unathi Binqose, the provincial transport spokesperson, cautioned motorists about possible delays and advised them to consider alternative routes. Continuous monitoring of other mountain passes is underway to mitigate further risks. Motorists are urged to heed restrictions and be particularly vigilant under these hazardous conditions.
