Orion benefits from accelerated strategy at Northern Cape project analyst

Orion Minerals, listed on the ASX and JSE, is advancing its strategy to establish multiple metals production hubs in South Africa’s Northern Cape. With cash reserves of $11 million at the end of December, the company is focusing on developing its Prieska copper/zinc mine. This involves pilot mining, ore processing improvements, mine dewatering, and feasibility studies geared towards early production.

Mining analyst Gavin Wendt commends Orion’s transition from explorer to emerging producer, highlighting comprehensive work at Prieska, including infrastructure installation and operational team appointments. Orion is also progressing with its Okiep project and the Jacomynspan nickel/copper/cobalt project, incorporating innovative metallurgical technologies.

A Resource Bulletin outlines the global importance of Orion’s Northern Cape assets, given the scarcity of base metal projects. The company aims to expedite production at Prieska by focusing on open-pit resources and residual pillars from historical mining.

MineLife’s outlook for copper is cautiously optimistic, suggesting gradual investment driven by favorable financial conditions and growing Chinese demand.
