In a tragic incident, nine individuals, including four women, were fatally shot by unidentified assailants in the northwest region during the Day of Reconciliation. The shooting occurred in the Popo Molefe informal settlement in Boitekong, near Rustenburg. At least eight others sustained injuries.
According to police spokesman Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the victims—a group of Xhosa-speaking individuals—were gathered in a garden, consuming alcohol on Saturday evening. The attack took place just after 9 p.m. when a number of Sesotho-speaking attackers opened fire on the group.
Law enforcement authorities are investigating the motive and searching for the perpetrators. The community is left in mourning as they grapple with this senseless act of violence.
