National disaster declared for KZN, Eastern Cape, Free State after severe weather | News24

National Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister Thembi Nkadimeng visited Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, to assess severe weather damage. The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs has now declared a national disaster in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, and the Free State. The announcement came from Bongani Elias Sithole of the National Disaster Management Center via a government gazette. The regions have faced disruptive rain, floods, high winds, and snow, leading to loss of life, significant property damage, infrastructure destruction, environmental harm, and basic service disruptions.
