JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane is calling on school boards to provide stronger support as newly elected School Governing Bodies (SGBs) begin their tenure. The emphasis is on enhancing their role amidst rising concerns about discipline and violence in schools. This call to action comes in the wake of a disturbing incident at Glenvista High School in Johannesburg, where a teacher and a student were involved in a physical altercation. During an interview with eNCA’s Faith Daniels, Chiloane was questioned about the department’s ability to manage these pressing issues effectively. The MEC’s remarks highlight the need for a collaborative effort to improve school environments and address the increasing behavior problems that threaten the educational system.
