LOOK | 17 people rescued, several families evacuated after damaging floods in the Western Cape | News24

Emergency services and the SAPS diving unit have successfully rescued 17 individuals in the Western Cape following severe weather conditions that affected several towns. The rescue operations saw 11 people—comprising three women, four men, and four children—rescued from Welgeluk in Oudtshoorn. Additionally, a woman and five men were airlifted from the Meiringspoort Pass. Many areas, including the Overberg District, the Garden Route, Central Karoo, the West Coast, and the Cape Winelands, suffered from heavy rainfall that led to significant flooding. Efforts to repair damage, such as the road at Nels River (Oude Muragie) near De Rust, are already underway with provincial workers on the job. As South Africa navigates these challenging times, it’s crucial for the public to stay informed.
