Life behind bars for Mpumalanga man who raped 15-year-old girl

The KwaMhlanga Regional Court sentenced 40-year-old Abashon Posh Moyo to life imprisonment for the 2012 rape of a 15-year-old girl. While returning from her local church, the victim encountered Moyo, who asked her to buy a drink. On her way back, Moyo forcibly dragged her to an open area and raped her. The incident was reported to the girl’s aunt, leading to her mother being informed and subsequent legal action. Moyo pleaded not guilty, but Prosecutor Bianca Harmse presented compelling evidence, including the victim’s testimony, initial reports, and a J88 medical report confirming her injuries. The court found the state’s witnesses credible, leading to Moyo’s conviction. National Prosecution Service spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, affirmed that the evidence was overwhelming, resulting in the life sentence.
