Initiation season | The Limpopo government is tightening its grip on initiation school standards

As winter initiation schools gear up for their 2024 season in Limpopo, the provincial government is stepping up safety protocols to protect participants. Authorities are resolute in improving standards and practices at these schools, which are slated to operate from June 14 to July 13. There are over 631 recognized initiation schools in the province, underscoring the significance of this cultural practice. Basikopo Makamu, the MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs, is leading the charge to ensure these traditions are carried out safely and responsibly. This move comes in response to the tragic loss of 30 insiders in the Eastern Cape, highlighting the urgent need for stringent safety measures.
