Gauteng’s education department has initiated a probe into a confrontation between a teacher and a student at Glenvista High School in Johannesburg, following a video of the incident that went viral on social media. The altercation, which took place on Thursday, involved a heated physical fight in the classroom, leading to the damage of school furniture.
Gauteng education MEC Matome Chiloane emphasized the seriousness of the incident, highlighting the department’s commitment to ensuring the safety of everyone on school grounds. Chiloane underscored that such displays of poor discipline are unacceptable, stating, “Schools are there for development, and not for other nefarious acts.” The MEC confirmed that the department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fight and assured that they will take decisive action based on their findings.
