Four life sentences for Mpumalanga serial rapist and murderer

The High Court in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, has sentenced Thabang Joseph Selepe, 32, to four life sentences for a series of rapes and murders between 2020 and 2022. Selepe targeted women in Kwaggafontein, luring them through social media by pretending to lead an extravagant lifestyle. His crimes came to light when police found the half-naked body of 20-year-old Paulinah Sangweni near a school in March 2020. Subsequent discoveries of other victims’ bodies in the same area followed, including Charlot Mabena, also 20, found in May 2022. Selepe was arrested on August 17, 2022, and convicted on two counts each of murder and rape. Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, praised the investigative and prosecution teams for their work in securing his conviction and sentence.
