The upsurge in support for Gayton McKenzie’s Patriotic Alliance (PA) in the Western Cape and Northern Cape has forced the DA into a do-or-die political fight.

The ANC, meanwhile, said it was confident of a 62% win in South Africa’s least populated province.

Two days after McKenzie hosted more than 30 000 people at Athlone Stadium in the DA’s heartland of Cape Town, DA leader John Steenhuisen held a final rally in the Northern Cape in the hope of wooing voters away from a party he refers to as “political mercenaries”.
