Rectron has donated R351,000 worth of advanced drone systems to the University of the Free State’s Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. The investment aims to boost smart farming in South Africa’s Free State province through drone training, licensing, and compliance. Rectron CEO Spencer Chen highlighted the significance of this provision, emphasizing the advanced capabilities of the DJI Agras T40 drone in aiding precision agriculture. Recognized as vital to South Africa’s food security, agriculture in the Free State accounts for 90% of land use and contributes 9% to the province’s GDP. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research supports drone usage for effective farm management, responding to unpredictable weather and pest outbreaks. Drones equipped with advanced sensors can quickly gather real-time data over large areas, facilitating targeted agricultural interventions and enhancing productivity.
