DA comfortably retains the majority in the Western Cape

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has successfully retained its majority in the Western Cape, achieving around 55.3% of the votes with 98% of the count completed. Party leader Alain Winde declared victory after surpassing one million votes in the province, despite disruptions from the Economic Freedom Fighters and other parties demanding a recount. Challenges and objections to the election results, citing vote processing irregularities, have been formally raised, but the DA’s stronghold remains intact. The DA secured over two million votes nationally, with half from the Western Cape. The African National Congress (ANC) suffered a significant drop, securing only 19.5% in the province compared to 28.6% five years ago. The Economic Freedom Fighters improved their share to 5.2%, while the GOOD Party and other smaller parties saw varied results. This election marks the fourth consecutive majority win for the DA in the Western Cape. Final national results are expected by Sunday evening.
