Copper 360 delivers the first copper concentrate from the Northern Cape in 21 years – African Mining Online

Copper 360 has achieved the first copper concentrate production from South Africa’s Northern Cape Province in 21 years, signaling a resurgence in the region’s copper output. During the commissioning of its newly acquired Nama Copper plant (MFP 2), the company attained impressive concentrate grades of over 30%. Over a three-week period, the plant produced 136 tonnes of concentrate, with expectations to exceed 1,000 tonnes per month within three months, two months ahead of schedule. Additionally, the SX/EW plant, which produces copper cathodes, reached a record production of 60 tonnes of pure copper metal in March 2024, targeting 100 tonnes per month shortly. CEO Jan Nelson highlighted this milestone as the dawn of a new era for South Africa’s copper production, acknowledging the support from the Namaqualand community and the dedication of the team. The second concentrate plant, MFP 1, aims to commence production by July 2024 with a monthly capacity of 1,400 tonnes.
