Former ANC Youth League president Collen Maine has been appointed as the new MEC for arts, culture, sports, and recreation in North West by Premier Kagiso Mokgosi. Maine previously served in the provincial executive council under former Premiers Thandi Modise and Supra Mahumapelo between 2013 and 2015. His leadership of the ANCYL, starting in 2015, faced significant controversy, leading to his resignation in 2019 following pressure from league members.
Mokgosi emphasized that Maine’s appointment followed extensive consultations and is in line with democratic practices. He expressed confidence in the newly formed Executive Council’s ethical standards and commitment to public service. The council aims to uphold gender equality and build on existing foundations to improve service delivery in the region. The new cabinet includes Madoda Sambatha, Wessels Morweng, Oageng Molapisi, Bitsa Lenkopane, Viola Motsumi, Kenetswe Mosenogi, Sello Lehari, Elizabeth Mokua, and Susana Dantjie. The MECs will be sworn in on Friday.
