Newly installed KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has denied consolidating his party’s power by deploying two IFP senior leaders to the economic development and local government departments – two years before the municipal elections.

For the most part of last year, the IFP and the ANC bickered over former Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi’s influence in councils.

Now, the IFP – which leads the government of provincial unity coalition together with the ANC, DA and the National Freedom Party (NFP) – has taken over this portfolio and appointed one of its most senior leaders.
