Bowls champion clinches title among Northern Cape’s finest again | News24

CP Mathewson continued his domination in the Northern Cape by clinching the title at the Northern Cape Bowls Open Masters Championships.

It came to a conclusion over the weekend of 22 and 23 June at the Beaconsfield Park Bowling Green Club in Kimberley.

Mathewson, however, had his work cut out for him in the final with Barry Minopetros proving to be a worthy opponent.

Mathewson was in the driving seat early in the game, and built up a healthy lead. Minopetros, however, clawed his way back and led the game by 17 – 14 at one stage. Mathewson managed to hold his nerve and closed the game out.

It was a spectacular final to watch, and both players were phenominal.

On the rink next door, Malandi Lambrechts from Victoria West took on Annatjie McLeod from Bloemhof in the women’s final. It was also a very closely contested final, but in the end it was Lambrechts who was crowned champion.

In the men’s playoff for third place, Quinton Kock from Hanover pipped Danie Koekemoer from Hartswater, while in the women’s playoff for third, Marietjie van den Berg came out victorious over Nadine Dames.
