ActionSA’s Mangope laments the decline of the North West Province

In Johannesburg, Kwena Mangope, son of former Bophuthatswana leader Lucas Mangope, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating conditions in North West province. Running for ActionSA, Kwena voted at Marekwa Primary School in Mahikeng, where the stark realities of neglected infrastructure are evident, with pothole-ridden roads and a lack of running water. The community’s nostalgia for the era of Lucas Mangope’s Bantustan government underscores their struggles. Kwena highlighted the defunct Mahikeng Airport and Bop Studios as markers of a failed democratic effort to advance Bophuthatswana’s legacy. He aims to restore these facilities to create jobs, boost tourism, and rejuvenate the province. The United Christian Democratic Party, once led by Mangope’s father, is notably absent from this year’s ballot.
