ACT out: Magashule’s ambitions to take over Free State a ‘far-fetched dream’ | News24

Ace Magashule’s African Congress for Transformation (ACT) remains optimistic about their prospects in governing the Free State, despite heavy criticism from current Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana. Dukwana accused ACT and Magashule of leaving a legacy of corruption and mismanagement. However, ACT provincial secretary Kgaketla Mokoena lauded Magashule’s achievements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

ACT faced numerous challenges, including a court order preventing its full participation in the elections due to late registration. Magashule, a controversial figure aligned with former president Jacob Zuma, has a contentious history involving corruption and unfinished projects. Dukwana dismissed ACT’s ambitions as unrealistic, predicting the party’s decline post-election.

In Magashule’s defense, Mokoena emphasized improvements in municipal performance and educational initiatives under his leadership. Meanwhile, critics like Bloemfontein resident Donald Constable described a regime marked by political intimidation and corruption. Despite these issues, ACT remains hopeful for the Free State’s future under their governance.
