JOHANNESBURG – Mining communities are calling for the legalisation of artisanal mining.
It comes as around 4,500 miners remain underground in Klerksdorp.
Over a thousand of their colleagues resurfaced after Operation Vala Mgodi cut off food and water supply.
Government does issue permits for sub-industrial scale operations.
But, informal miners find the regulations too onerous and opt to operate outside the law.
We discuss this with Meshack Mbangula from Mining Affected Communities United in Action.
